Sierra Care - Public Charity
Sierra Care is a not-for-profit organization that came into operation on August 6th 2004 as a continued effort to support victims of the brutal civil war; mainly those whose hands, legs, fingers or toes have been amputated. These folks are now homeless or go to bed without food in the streets of Sierra Leone, West Africa. David, Yaye and their son David Kessebeh Jr. escaped the war in 1996 and found a new home in Dallas, Texas but these couple never finds perfect comfort—-they always want to help the folks in Sierra Leone who had suffered badly from the war. In 1996, the young couple teamed—up with their new friends at Scofield Church—-a non-denomination bible based church, prayed fervently for God’s direction to end the war.
In May of 2000, a United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone, together with a British Operation—Operation Palliser ended the civil war. With the cessation of hostilities and the return to normal life; David, Yaye and their son who was five years old in 2000 began saving their used clothing, shoes, school supplies and some Christian literature. The Kessebehs’ began informing friends, church communities, near-by schools, hospitals, neighborhoods and continue the clothing drive, school supplies and bibles etc… .
In January of 2002, David and family with the support of friends and church communities shipped a 20 feet container and flew to Sierra Leone distributed the collected items to the amputees at their Aberdeen Road Refugee Camp. David spent three consecutive days providing food, bible teachings, entertainment such as religious movies, music and played soccer together. David established good relationships with the amputees, listened to their individual stories related to their amputations.
To date, Sierra Care is governed by very fine, smart and ethical people who seats on its board and is classified as an exempt organization under section 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) of the internal revenue code, therefore contributions to Sierra Care are deductible under section 170 ( b ) ( 1 ) ( A ) ( vi ) of the code. Sierra Care public charity status is also been governed by its strong biblical foundations with its objective of spreading the gospel to those who are lost and strengthen the weak around the world.
